I’m an illustrator & graphic-designer by trade, but an experimenter by nature…I’m also a self-taught gif-maker! I always aim to give my artworks and illustrations a functional quality.

My name is Kobie ‘Koba’ Nieuwoudt. I’m based in the Northern suburbs of Cape Town. In 2013 I graduated from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, specialized in graphic design. In 2014 I went on to complete a Honours degree specialising in illustration at Stellenbosch University. In 2015 illustrations from my children’s book “Pippa en die Woud” were chosen to represent South Africa as part of the Worldwide Picture Book Exhibition and was also presented at the 2016 Bologna children’s book fair. In 2016 I was chosen as a Design Indaba: Emerging Creative which was a wonderful experience.

I enjoy making people laugh; humour is an essential part of life and I try to incorporate it into my work. Illustrating your feelings with a sense of humour gives you plenty of freedom. It enables me to say things I wouldn’t necessarily get the chance to say on any other platform. That said, while my work may reflect a ‘humorous’ outlook on life, I’m still a rather serious person. There is so much hate being cast around these days. Beneath all the humour there is in fact a person coping with all the craziness in the world….as we all do!

For me illustrating is a positive, creative outlet and I hope it will also lighten the mood of those who come into contact with my work.
