‘Guilty Pleasure’ | ‘Do’nut Pop Your Lid’ Exhibition

R800.00

‘Do’nut Pop Your Lid’
Curated by Tharien Strydom, hosted by No End Contemporary Art Space & in collaboration with ‘Prep’d by Sasha’. ‘Do’nut Pop Your Lid’ invites the viewer into the traditional gallery space, lured by the smell of popcorn and delicious doughnuts (that are everything but ordinary)! The exhibition becomes an experience of flavours created to specifically enhance the engagement with the works! Feel the sugar on your thumb and the salt assault of the popcorn on your tongue.
The inspiration for this artwork stemmed form the mind of someone hasn’t had a doughnut since the year 2008.
Don’t get me wrong, I have a profound  appreciation for all things sweet.

When I hear the word ‘doughnut’ I think of hundreds-and-thousands (which was also a predominant influence during the creation of this illustration!)

So, who doesn’t love a doughnut? Somehow I’ve just managed to avoid the colourful, deep-fried, gloriousness that is the doughnut for almost 10 years…and counting. For me the doughnut represents something you desire or crave, but not something you necessarily need to have. I aimed to capture the latter by juxtaposing the seemingly statuesque figures with vibrant movement. The work was created with a combination of collage, gouache, pencil and digital illustration.
